Summary
The Nuggets have claimed the ‘Battle of the South’ bragging rights, defeating the Southland Sharks by 8 points.
It was a game of two halves, with Sharks coming out the blocks hard and putting scoreboard pressure on the Nuggets.
An exhilarating third quarter from the Nuggets defined the game however, with the team dominating on both sides of the court stacking on 24 points and holding the opposition to just 8.
After turning a half-time 4-point deficit into an 8-point lead heading into the fourth, Nuggets had all the momentum and controlled the game thereon.
The home team held onto that 8-point lead, running away winners to start their season with back-to-back victories.
Southland Captain Jeremy Kendle impressed with 27 points for Southland.
Point guard JaQuori McLaughlin did a little bit of everything with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
Nuggets Captain Sam Timmins recorded his second straight double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds
